Interview with 8th Note (eng.)

WB: Hi man, can you please introduce yourself to those who might not heard about you? How long you’ve benn producing / djing and how did you first get into garage music?
8th Note: Hi, I’m 8th Note ive been Djing now for about 8 years, producing for 5 years. First discovered by the record label Hype Music who have released most of my music over the last year. Now mainly focusing on co-running 42tf Recordings where all my tunes have been released over the last few months.
I first got into garage when all the commercial tunes were coming out in the early 2000’s through buying the Pure Garage albums and through friends, then went onto buying vinyls. Finally got my self onto a small internet radio in 2004 and then moved onto various other stations. Then stepped up a gear in 2005 and got myself into producing. Ive never looked back!

WB: Your sound is a coctail of vocal 2-step vibes with a big role of 4×4. How do you define it?
8th Note: Since first jumping onto music production ive always wanted to make the more bumpier underground 2step/4×4 Garage highly influenced by the likes of Todd Edwards, Karl Brown, Duncan Powell and Solution. But I’m always trying out different styles and sounds all related back to garage.

WB: Describe the role of 42f recordings and Hype Music in providing old-new garage stuff without prefix ‘future’. Btw what’s your attitude to it? So and uk funky?
8th Note: Before being found by Hype Music I was always into all the music they released, it was my kind of Garage, which over the last few years has sadly slowly died down. Its great that Hype Music and 42tf Recordings not to mention a few other labels. Still support this kind of Garage as there is still a steady following. At the moment im loving the future garage sound and its definatly something I want to progress onto. The sound of future garage is definatly unique in terms of sounds basslines etc… but bringing in influences from the earlier 2step beats.
UK Funky is not really a scene I’ve got into although I don’t mind some of it. Garage is in my blood.

WB: Where are you taking inspiration for making music? What kind of gear/soft are you using?
8th Note: I don’t really like to stick to one major inspiration, it totally depends on what I’m feeling at the time and It doesn’t have to be Garage to inspire me to make Garage. Sometimes ill be in a really experimental mood, the best example of that would be my unreleased track “The Story”, which I’m going to be releasing. I‘m currently using Reason 5 but am also thinking of trying out Logic in the future as I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.

WB: TOP-producers for you. Who would you like to work with?
8th Note: My favourite producer right now in the future garage scene would have to be Resketch. On a more bumpier side PDV — Hear Me Out is a favorite tune at the moment.. its ruff!! I speak on behalf of most garage producers when I say who I want to work with and that would have to be Todd Edwards. His tune are amazing and no one has been able to come close to his unique sound, he is the God of the scene and it wouldn’t be were it was today without him.

WB: What new releases/remixes shoud we expect from 8th Note in a nearest future?
8th Note: I still feel I’m progressing as a producer and am always trying out new things. Ive released a lot of tracks over the last year on various Eps and remixes for a number of producers, Currently I am working on a 10 track album for 42tf Recordings featuring some previously unreleased bits which people will recognise and some unheard bits as well. Still in the making though so even I don’t know what to expect!! I’m hopeing to get the album complete in the next 2 months. Currently we (42tf) are working on an EP from a new signed member to the label which will feature a remix by myself.. More info to come soon.

WB: Your personal forecast for 2010 — hypes, new styles, fresh names? What will be the place of garage music next year?
8th Note: The biggest thing to happen to Garage this year is definatly the hype over Future Garage.
Over the course of 2010 its progressed so much and the tunes have got better and better.
Next year I can see it becoming a well known genre just like dubstep has over the last few years and its great the future garage DJ’s are supporting the 44 sound and the usual 2step garage flavours.

WB: Tell a few words about the mix you’ve made for us?
8th Note: First half of the mix is Future Garage featuring 2 tracks by myself and the second half is the bumpier stuff! All the tracks I played are tracks that I am really feeling at the moment and are inspiring me also added a few of my own tunes for those people who don‘t know me.

WB: Thank you a lot for a nice conversation and at last say few words for our readers and fans of 8th Note!
8th Note: Watch out for a lot more music coming very soon on 42tf Recordings from the likes of Solution, Elski, Tony H, Mr Pud, Jupit3r, and many many more!

Also have to big up these people for there support on my music!

Elski, Solution, Detox, Leon, Duncan Powell, Aleks Zen, 42tf Recordings, Hype Music, DJ BRiTe, DJT, Scott Sharp, Danny Dubbz, Ukinda, Whistla, Darrel C, Karl Brown, Todd Edwards, Jamie Lakes, DJ BLQ, Craig Griffiths, Brainz, Andy 1UP, DJ EZ, Masha and many many more I cant think of right now… you know who you are!!! :D
